When did your business start?
ABBA Engineering was started in 2000 and I personally bought the company in 2012. It’s been a great and successful journey since then with the business growing each year, winning awards and we’re extremely excited for what the new year holds for us.
What is the biggest challenge in your business/industry currently?
For us personally, it’s the risk mitigation of the new style contracts for major projects. The negotiation time to get these finalised is extremely time intensive and often the works involved takes less time than getting the deal across.
Where do you see your business/industry heading in the next few years?
The current lack of labour force will take a huge toll on the industry. The current industry has numerous projects projected for completion, however with the current labour shortage, especially in WA will see majority of these projects come to a halt pending adequate labour required to execute the project/s.
How long have you been working with MJAA?
We came onboard in around mid 2021, so we’ve been with MJAA for just under 3 Years.
How is the MJAA different from other accounting firms?
What I have found as the biggest difference from other accounting firms, is the on-going support and activity of finding new ways of tax minimisation. We’ve done this through ways I have never thought of previously, Michael and his team take the time to explain to explain in detail not just at year-end, but throughout the year.
What are the main pain points in your business where MJAA has helped you prosper?
The two main areas over the last year have been:
- The understanding of instant asset write off and how this can affect the profit if the repayments of the asset still being made after the asset has already been claimed for the purpose.
- Quarterly Catchups to go through our Monthly Run sheet and customizing it to what I need to see as an Operational/Service based CEO. This gives me full transparency and confidence in the business.
- Having a separate business, ABBA Renewables, in another state means the monthly reports we receive from Michael’s team on a timely basis are crucial for keeping up to date with the business performance.
